Three puppies born on the day of an earthquake

On the fateful morning of October 23, 2004, a dog named Mari gave birth to three puppies in Yamakoshi Village, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. That evening, a severe earthquake struck Niigata and devastated the Village, causing almost all of its homes to collapse, including the one where Mari lived. During the quake the newborn puppies were jolted away from their mother, and since their eyes were still closed, they could not find their way back to her side. Also, because she was bound by a leash, Mari could not reach her babies. She tried repeatedly to pull free from the leash, but to no avail. Then, several tremors occurred and Mari tried even harder to break free until her neck began to bleed. Suddenly, another strong aftershock struck, Mari struggled with all her might, and the collar suddenly came loose. Next she quickly picked up her puppies, moved them to a safe place, and without taking a rest ran toward the ruins that were once her house.

Courageous rescue of grandfather

The grandfather of Mari’s family was home alone that day. He lived on the second floor, but suffered from a neurological disorder that made it impossible for him to stand on his feet or climb the stairs unassisted. After the earthquake, the old man was immobilized as he had been trapped beneath a wardrobe. Aftershocks and the total darkness resulting from a power outage pushed him into desperately thinking that death might be around the corner. Just then, Mari appeared in his room on the second floor and looked at him with encouraging eyes. The grandfather had been slipping into unconsciousness, but when he saw Mari he regained awareness although he was still immobilized. Mari then licked him to give him encouragement and went downstairs several times to check on her pups before quickly returning to the man’s room. She ran back and forth many times even though her paws had been injured by the sharp-edged glass and pieces of porcelain that lay all over the floor. Each trip gave her new wounds, but Mari managed to kindle new hope in the grandfather’s heart, and looking at Mari he thought, “I must live on. I cannot give up,” Finally, he pushed at the wardrobe with all his strength, it gave way and he managed to free himself. Then with Mari's encouragement, the grandfather spent two hours climbing down the stairs—a feat he had previously been unable to accomplish without help. Upon reaching the ground floor, he was happy to find that the three puppies were safe and sound.

A sad parting and further ordeals

After the October 23, 2004 earthquake Yamakoshi Village was in a state of total destruction and isolation as all local roads had been cut off. And with a continuous series of aftershocks increasing the danger of landslides, on October 25 all the villagers were evacuated by helicopter to a nearby accommodation center. Under these circumstances, the grandfather was forced to leave Mari behind for in times of disaster saving human lives is the main concern. He left all of his pet food for his beloved dog, prayed that she and her pups would be safe and took off her collar. Then, with no other options, as he boarded the helicopter to leave behind the one who had saved his life, he said with guilt and sadness, "I’m very sorry, Mari," and felt heart-broken as Mari howled in deep sorrow. As time passed and her supply of rations ran out, Mari had to search for food in her abandoned village, suffering many ordeals as she tried to protect her little puppies. All the while the grandfather thought of her constantly, and with anxiety over the continuing tremors fell ill and had to be hospitalized. Then two weeks after the evacuation, the villagers were allowed to return to Yamakoshi to see their homes. Among the returnees was the man’s son, who immediately began to search for Mari. Upon finding her, he noticed that she was much thinner, and she hesitated for an instant after hearing her name but then dashed toward him. He held her close in his arms for a long time. Mari had not had enough food for herself, but she fed her babies milk and took care of them as well as she could. In contrast to their skinny mother, the three puppies looked chubby and healthy as they slept sweetly on the porch. The son was delighted to see the little pups growing up in good health.

Before Yamakoshi Village was reconstructed, the villagers remained in temporary housing in a neighboring city. Being in charge of advertising affairs for the village committee, the son was a busy man so he placed Mari and her puppies in the care of another family. When the grandfather was still in the hospital, Mari's caretaker took her to visit him. Thus, after undergoing countless trials, Mari and the old man were finally reunited. Mari was very happy to see the man, who was recuperating and said with quivering lips and tears filling his eyes, "Thank you for saving my life."

Then in April 2005 the grandfather was discharged from the hospital and began living with his son and Mari in an apartment. By that time Mari's three puppies had been adopted by other families and were growing up healthily in their new homes. Today, the grandfather and his family are still living in the apartment but look forward to returning soon to Yamakoshi Village.

Fireworks for Mari

Mari’s touching story, which illustrates the mutual trust and love between humans and animals that helps them through ordeals, has frequently been reported in the news media and has also been adapted as an illustrated storybook — Mari of Yamakoshi Village and Her Three Pups. The book has received a huge response in Japan and serves as a great inspiration for disaster victims. The company that published the volume is contributing part of its sales revenues to the reconstruction and relief funds for areas affected by the October 2004 earthquake, and distributes the book free of charge to children in Yamakoshi Village and its thirteen neighboring cities.

Failed Slimming Experience...

Hi guys... Ever think of how to slim down and being able to fit into every beautiful clothes you saw on your shopping spree??? I DID... In fact I'm plump/fat since I'm in secondary 1... People around me always talk about my fats... Hai...

1 occasion I hate the most is Chinese New Year... Because all my relatives will start to compare who is the most beautiful and who is not... Of course, the 1 that is the most beautiful will always not be me... Cause I'm always in the most fat category... And so everyone will start to ask me & my parent, how do I get fat, what did I eat everyday, will any guys like me in future, etc...

From then on, I start to try lots of slimming methods...
Example:-

Low carbo intake

No rice, no noodle, no potatoes, no chips... Only veg, steam meat, soup, fruits.
This is super torturing... Trust me... You wont wanna try... I just feel like my craving has not stop and my meal is not satisfied... Just like you have wore a beautiful dress with brilliant make-up and hair-do, but with slipper on... So I think all of you would have know... I gave up after 3weeks... But at least I tried it for 3weeks... All my 3weeks of torturing come in vain in a week...

Slimming Center
I went to a slimming center to do some steam bath, body shaking, wrapping. I did lost some weight... But notice that's not fat... Its water!!! The weight will eventually come back again... Waste money too! And FYI, it's not cheap!!!

Yogurt Diet
From the name, you will know, its yogurt for breakfast, lunch & dinner... And have to be at least 99% fat free yogurt with a teaspoon of green tea powder!!! Have to take at most 500ml of yogurt!!! Its even worst than low carbo intake... And when 500ml is reach, whenever hungry, apple will be the one going down my throat... During that 1week, my fridge is full of apples... And yes! I tried for only 1week... Did slim down I have to say... But of course!!! I'm starving myself!!! In the end, my weight is back within a week too... Sad...

Lemon, Lemon, Lemon...
Everyday only restrict myself to have a meal a day... And that will be breakfast... Cause our body's metabolism work in the morning... And lemons will be my meal whenever I'm hungry... And is hw worst of all slimming methods!!!
DO NOT TRY THIS!!! Not only I did not slim down a lot, I spend lots of money on my medical fees and had 4days of MC... Yes! My stomach is full of gastric acid... sob sob....

After so many lesson learn, I now have to do lots of research before I try new slimming methods... In fact, I now got a little scared when come to slimming..
Now!!! Finally there's something that can help in slimming... Now more lemon, diet, torturing... Its
Cenosis's Cavitation Technology ( www.cenosis.biz/cavitation.php ). Its armed with a team of physiotherapists and N2 License from National Environment Agency (NEA).

Cavitation is the latest technology in slimming... It help to break down your fat cells membrane through the bursting of micro-bubbles. The complex fatty acids are then broken down into simpler fatty acids. These simple fatty acids can then be passed out through excretory system. And all these are proven!!! Wow!!!

That's what I really need!!! Break down all my fats and make them gone!!! I feel that its simply great & wonderful. Not only it can help me to slim down, it also will help me tone my body shape somehow... Moreover, no medication needed... And I feel more safe and confident to be helped by all professional physiotherapists and even N2 licenses issued by NEA, what else can go wrong???
The most happiest 1 will be, in the coming Chinese New Year, I may not be in the topic of my relatives' fat subject anymore... Not only that, I'll also be able to be in their beautiful category and happily answering their how I can be more beautiful questions... Haha...

So those who wanna slim down and look more healthy, what are you waiting for??? Make an appointment with Cenosis right now, to find out how you can benefit from this wonderful technology at a
special price of $33. Call 7000 700 6626 or visit www.cenosis.biz/cavitation.php to make an appointment.

Feisty Princess

Went through the websites and saw this article about a 4yr old little girl, Charmaine. Everyone call her the Feisty Princess. See how cute she is...

Feisty Princess Charmaine has been diagnosed with neuroblastoma. She is currently in the 4th stage and fighting hard. Such a sweet and cheerful little girl has to undergo so much pain and suffering at such a young age is not easy. I am so touched by this girl. Really feel for her...

Ex—football heroes play in charity match to raise money for sick girl
SINGAPORE: They were heroes during the glory days of the Malaysia Cup in the 1990s. But for four—year—old Charmaine Lim, they are more than just that.

Malaysia Cup legends including Rafi Ali, Fandi Ahmad, Abbas Saad, Malek Awab came together on Sunday to host a charity game to save the life of Charmaine, who is suffering from a deadly form of cancer.

The cause to save her life also moved the MediaCorp All—Stars to play against the former ’Dream Team’ to raise money — through ticket sales — for Charmaine’s medical fund.

The former Dream Team beat the MediaCorp All—Stars team 11—5 in the match.

Charmaine has been diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a debilitating cancer that occurs in children and has been given a 10% chance of survival by her doctors in Singapore. But hope exists for the spirited little girl.

A new trial drug called 3F8, available in the United States, has been known to dramatically increase survival rates by up to five times. The trial drug is being administered at the Memorial Sloane—Kettering Cancer Centre in New York, considered the world’s premiere centre for treating children with Neuroblastoma. With this treatment, Charmaine could have a 50% chance to live.

But it comes with a hefty S$500,000 price tag. Not a small sum for Charmaine’s mum who is a single mother with two children.

The footballer legends and the MediaCorp All Stars managed to raise S$30,000 in ticket sales and S$10,000 via donation boxes. Former national footballer Rafi Ali, who came up with the idea of the charity football match, said: "Tell Charmaine she’s not fighting the monster alone because we’re all here fighting with her."

Others have stepped forward to help as well. Staff and management of ladies’ spa Subtle Senses came forward as volunteers to collect donations at the charity event. The company also donated S$5,000. Other organisations that have come forward to help include Coca—Cola and Bengawan Solo.

For more info on how you can help, please visit this website: http://ourfeistyprincess.com/

— CNA/ir

So guys, do help her... They are now having 330K. Not far from 420K. We need to help her as much as we can so she can have a better treatment... Jia You Charmaine!!!

Feisty Char needs bullets to fight!
